Men's 400 Medley Relay Team Finishes Sixth at Phillips 66 National Championship

The Syracuse University men's swimming 400 medley relay team made up of freshmen Gustavo Kertzscher (Skurup, Sweden), AJ Newman (Narromine, Australia), Mike Anstrom (Springfield, Va.) and sophomore Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany) finished sixth at the 2002 Phillips 66 National Championships on Saturday, March 23. The foursome swam the race in a time of 3:59.50, finishing behind Novaquatics, Inc. - CA (3:53.15), the University of Maryland (3:54.03), the University of Minnesota (3:55.73), Coast Guard Blue - Va. (3:57.36) and the University of Minnesota "B" squad (3:58.21).
Sophomore Elyse McDonough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) was 17th in the preliminaries of the women's 200 individual medley (2:23.09) on March 23. In the finals, she posted a time of 2:23.50, to place 20th overall.
Sophomore Annie Tudryn (Springfield, Mass./Cathedral) finished ninth in the 200 breaststroke on Wednesday, March 20 at the 2002 Phillips 66 National Championship. Tudryn, the SU women's record holder in the 200 breaststroke, swam the race in a time of 2:37.07, which qualified her for the summer nationals.
The lone member of the SU swim team still competing is senior Djordje Filipovic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia). He will participate in three events (200 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly) at the 2002 NCAA Men's Swimming Championship on March 28-30 in Atlanta, Georgia. It is the second-consecutive season that Filipovic has qualified for the NCAA Championships.
