SU Faces Villanova In First Round of BIG EAST Tournament

NEW YORK, NY -- Syracuse (20-10) faces Villanova (16-11) for the second time in less than a week when the Orangemen begin play in the BIG EAST Tournament on Wednesday night at New York's Madison Square Garden.

SU and Villanova tip-off at 7:00 p.m. in the third of four first-round games in the tournament on Wednesday. The winner of the matchup will play Connecticut on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.

Villanova defeated Syracuse on Feb. 28, 67-61, in Philadelphia. The Orange lead the overall series with the Wildcats, 30-22, and Syracuse has captured eight-of-10 BIG EAST Tournament pairings with Villanova. The two teams also met in the 1999 BET with the Orangemen prevailing, 70-62.

Other first-round games include Boston College (19-10) vs. Rutgers (18-11), Georgetown (18-10) vs. Providence (15-15) and St. John's (19-10) vs. Seton Hall (12-17).
