The conference aims to bring together a diverse group of the nation?s top student-athletes to challenge them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities. Various activities, including group meals, discussions and activities, visits to Disney World and a banquet on the last night, are part of the five-day event.
"I am honored that my athletic and academic achievements have been recognized," Adrian said. "It is great to be chosen as a leader among other qualified athletes. I think I?m getting a great opportunity to meet some other student-athletes and I feel privileged to represent Syracuse University and its athletic program."
Adrian is the defending BIG EAST outdoor discus champion and has qualified for the 2002 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship in the hammer throw, shot put and discus.
In addition to his athletic prowess, Adrian is actively involved in the Syracuse community, both on and off-campus. He volunteers at the Rosewood Heights Convalescent Home, serving coffee and donuts, reading the morning paper to residents, as well as helping out in the student-run store. In addition, he mentors students at the Jamesville-DeWitt Middle School. Adrian is one of six student-athletes who serve on the Student-Athlete Policy Board at SU and is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Adrian will compete in the shot put, hammer throw and discus at the Judith and Leslie Vielbig Invitational at the Joe Vielbig Track at the Lampe Athletics Complex on Sunday, April 21.
