"Basket Ball" III A Great Success

SYRACUSE, NY -- The third annual "Basket Ball," a fund-raising event organized by SU men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim and his wife, Juli, was held Saturday, April 27, at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino. The proceeds from the Ball go to the American Cancer Society and its Central New York services, research and prevention programs.

This year's ball featured legendary jazz performer David Sanborn and ESPN's Linda Cohn. Syracuse assistant basketball coaches Bernie Fine, Mike Hopkins and Troy Weaver were on hand, as well as former SU assistant coaches Louis Orr, the head coach at Seton Hall, and Providence head coach Tim Welch.

St. Joseph's head coach Phil Martelli and new West Virginia head coach John Beilein particpated as well.

The Boeheim's held the first "Basket Ball" in 2000. The 2001 Ball featured the singing duo of Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr., former members of The Fifth Dimension, plus national championship coach Mike Krzyzewski and his wife, Mickie. ESPN personality and SU alumnus Mike Tirico was master of ceremonies for the first two events.

Boeheim is chairman of the national council of Coaches vs. Cancer.
