
SU's Graves Named Verizon Academic First Team All-District I

SYRACUSE, NY — Syracuse University graduate student rower Libby Graves (Holden, Mass./St. Mark's) was named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District I first team. It is the second consecutive year that Graves has earned the honor.
Graves, the four seat in the Orangewomen's No. 10 ranked varsity eight, graduated in three years and is earning master's degree in public policy from the Maxwell School of Public Affairs and Citizenship. Graves, a second-year captain for the SU, made time for community service during the last six semesters. Her volunteerism is highlighted by a mentoring program she developed for the Wilson Park Community Center in Syracuse. At SU she was named the 2002 Soladay Award winner, the highest honor given to a Syracuse student-athlete. In 2001 and 2000 she was the recipient of the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association's Mid-Atlantic Region National Scholar Award. Last season she was named a BIG EAST Academic All Star. She was also named to the USRowing Collegiate Honor Roll in 2000. She is a seven-time member of Syracuse's Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
In 2002 Graves was the four seat for SU's varsity eight and overall team wins at the BIG EAST Rowing Challenge. Last season she rowed in the varsity eight that finished sixth at the NCAA Championship, third at the Eastern Sprints, first at the BIG EAST Rowing Challenge and posted an 8-0 regular-season record, defeating 21 teams.
Graves was an at-large nominees in District I. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2 on a scale of 4.00. Sports information directors nominate eligible student-athletes from their schools who are named to district teams prior to being voted for on the national level.
