SU Student Association President Colin Seale and Vice President Shawn Hardie formed a Carrier Dome Student Ticketing Task Force during the spring. The two student leaders were joined on the task force by four other students and conducted regular meetings with Carrier Dome Managing Director Patrick Campbell. The primary mission of the task force was to develop a proposal to be submitted to University administration that addressed student concerns with Carrier Dome seating at football and menÕs basketball games.
The proposal, which was accepted with certain conditions, will be implemented this fall. Key points of the task forceÕs proposal included:
· The student seating areas will remain the same as last season, but will be converted to all general admission areas.
· On game days, SU students will report to Gate E at the Carrier Dome, and enter by presenting their ticket. The ticket will be validated and students will receive a color-coded wristband that indicates the specific seating area within the student section.
Dome management and members of the task force decided to implement the process on a test basis for the first two home football games (Sept. 7 vs. North Carolina and Sept. 14 vs. Rhode Island). It will be evaluated and adjusted following the two games.
"We anticipate that the switch to the all-general admission student seating area for football will be successful and, as a result, will be implemented for men's basketball as well," said Campbell.
The task force proposal accomplished a number of the goals brought forth by the student leaders:
· Students will have the opportunity to sit with all their friends during the game.
· Dome usher and security staff will no longer need to force students to sit in a specific, reserved seat.
· Additional student attendance will be encouraged by the plan.
· Students will have the opportunity to sit close to the field or the court based on the all-general admission setup.
The correspondence explaining the plan was sent to all SU students on June 3.
