PALO ALTO, Calif. - Syracuse University's Nicole Kendrick (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster HS) placed second in the discus at the 2002 USATF Junior Nationals held at Stanford University June 21-22.

Kendrick, who recently completed her freshman year competing for the Syracuse track & field team, threw 168-1 (51.24m) in the final to claim second place. Billie-Jo Grant won the discus with a throw of 172-4 (52.52m). Kendrick also placed sixth in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 48-8 1/4 (14.84m).

A 2002 NCAA provisional qualifier in the discus, Kendrick put together a string of six consecutive meet victories during the season that included an individual title at the Penn Relays.
