Countdown to Kickoff: Nunes Ready When Needed
8/14/2002 11:13:43 AM | Football
Though senior Troy Nunes goes into the season as R.J. Anderson's back up, he has already solidified his spot in the Syracuse record books in several categories. Nunes' 24 career touchdown passes are fourth in SU history, behind only Donovan McNabb, Marvin Graves and Don McPherson. His .588 career completion percentage ranks behind only Graves; his 3,241 career passing yards are the fifth most in Orangemen history.
Nunes started in four games last season, including an emergency start against East Carolina, after which he earned BIG EAST co-Offensive Player of the Week honors. His four touchdowns in that game tied the Syracuse single-game record.
Nunes earned the high honor of being selected by his teammates as a team captain for the upcoming season. He joins Keith Downing as the only backup quarterbacks in school history to be named captain.
Syracuse kicks off the 2002 season on August 29 in Provo, Utah against Brigham Young. The Orangemen will open the home portion of their schedule on September 7 when they host North Carolina in the Carrier Dome. For tickets call 888-DOMETIX or visit www.dometix.com.
