Smith, Gachelin and Riddle Honored by ECAC

Smith, a 2002 Second Team All-BIG EAST selection, finished his career ranked fifth on SU?s all-time tackles list and fifth in BIG EAST conference history with 405 stops. He paced the Orange and the BIG EAST with 137 tackles in 2002. His 89 solo stops tied for ninth on SU's single-season record list and ranked 12th nationally. Smith ranks sixth on SU's career solo tackles record list with 244. Smith was named to The Sporting News First Team All-BIG EAST squad.
Gachelin led SU and finished third in the conference with a career-high 8.5 sacks, which ranked sixth in the BIG EAST. For the season, Gachelin had 10 quarterback hurries, forced three fumbles and 18 of his 48 tackles went for a loss. He is tackles-for-loss ranked fifth in the BIG EAST. He posted career-highs against Pittsburgh with two sacks, seven tackles and one forced fumble. Gachelin was selected to the All-BIG EAST second team.
Riddle caught 41 passes for a team-leading 626 yards and five touchdowns. His 56.9 receiving yards per game was the fourth-best in the BIG EAST. He was third in the conference with 23 punt returns for 316 yards, averaging 13.7 yards a return. Riddle was named the Co-BIG EAST Special Teams Player of the Week after he returned two punts for 90 yards against Auburn, including an 85-yard touchdown return. He was named a second-team All-BIG EAST performer at both wide receiver and punt returner.
