Swimming and Diving Team Returns to Action
The swimming and diving team will compete in its first meet since Nov. 23, when it travels to West Virginia for a dual-meet against the Mountaineers on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 11 a.m. The Orangemen and Orangewomen swimmers traveled to Puerto Rico in the beginning of January to train for the second portion of their season. Swimming at a facility with a 10-lane, 50-meter pool, the team was able to spread out and get workouts in for all of its swimmers.
SU will participate in four dual-meets before the 2003 BIG EAST Championships commence on Feb. 20-22, at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Uniondale, N.Y.
Time Change for the Seton Hall Meet
The time for SU's dual-meet against Seton Hall scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 1, has been changed from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Diving competition against the Pirates will begin at 2 p.m. at the Sibley Pool in the women's building, while swimming is slated to begin at 2 p.m. at Webster Pool.
New Swimmer Joins Orangemen Roster
Freshman Mike Gavan joined the Syracuse swim team this month. A native of Clayton, California, Gavan will help the men's swimming team in the 400 individual medley, his best event. He can also contribute in the 200 butterfly and some longer freestyle events. He comes from the same hometown as teammate Josh Scott and swam for the mighty Terrapin Swim Team.
