Eight Orangemen Named to BIG EAST All-Academic Football Team

Three Orangemen juniors were named to the team for the third consecutive year, including tight end Lenny Cusumano (West Paterson, N.J./Physical eduaction), center Nick Romeo (Tarpon Springs, Fla./Mechanical engineering) and outside linebacker Rich Scanlon (Orangeburg, N.Y./Health & exercise science). Second-year recipients include sophomore guard Matt Tarullo (Albany, N.Y./Psychology) and junior defensvie end Josh Thomas (Orchard Park, N.Y./Psychology). Making their first appearance on the All-Academic Team are redshirt freshman guard Tim Carignan (Belmont, N.H./Physical education), junior long snapper Dave DeAmato (Wilmington, Mass./Policy Studies) and senior offensive lineman Ray Hennings (Newport, N.Y./Political Science/Economics).
The trio of Romeo, Scanlon and Thomas are also 2001 and 2002 Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America District I Football Team selections.
The All-Academic Team recognizes letterwinners who have posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better. Student-athletes must complete a minimum of two semesters of academic work are eligible.
