SU 's Varsity Four Claims Bodenstedt Cup at Stonehurst Invitational

The varsity four was coxed by junior Makiko Muraoka, while sophomore Lindsey Heumann, juniors Liz Kellogg, Kim Garvey and Carolyn Taylor served as the oarswomen. Syracuse’s combined time was more than a minute ahead of the University of Buffalo’s, which placed second (37:37.68).
In the Women’s Open Eight Division, SU’s varsity eight A boat finished second with a combined time of 32:18.82. Radcliffe earned its fifth straight women’s open eight title, finishing the competition with a time 32:03.94. It was the second consecutive year SU’s varsity eight A team placed second in women’s open eight. The Orangewomen’s varsity B squad finished 14th in the competition, posting a time of 34:55.28.
The combined times for the event were determined by tripling the sprint race time and adding it to the 3.1 mile head race.time.
Senior captain Marisa Begley coxed the varsity eight A squad. The oarswomen consisted of sophomore Ineke DeSimone, Catherine Henny, senior captain Shannon Mercurio, juniors Shawna O'Brien, Anna Goodale, Ali Forsyth, Kelly McGrorey, and senior Juliet Bonczkowski.
The women’s varsity eight B boat was made up of Lindsey Armstrong, junior Beth Landgraf, sophomores Emilee Cummings, Mindy Reeger, Julie Fumanti, Andrea Mueller, Kayla Ryan, and senior Michelle Garren. Senior Aliza Seeber served as the boat’s coxswain.
Syracuse will return to action on Oct. 25 when it competes in the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, Pa.
