SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse women's basketball coach Keith Cieplicki has announced that Amanda Adamson, a 6-0 guard, of Littleton, Colo. has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Orangewomen beginning in 2004.
Adamson, an honorable mention All-American by Street & Smith in 2003, is currently a senior at Heritage High School. Adamson averaged 13 points, five rebounds, four assists, two steals and two blocks per game as a junior. She was named class 5A honorable mention all-state by both the Rocky Mountain News and the Denver Post in 2002-03. She was also a second-team All-Continental League performer, helping the Eagles to a berth in the state championship game. In the state semifinals, Adamson scored a career-high 24 points, grabbed eight rebounds and three steals.
"Amanda is a tremendous athlete that can play a variety of positions," Cieplicki said. "She is a great shooter and sees the floor really well. She comes from a great basketball background."
In her three years on the squad, Heritage has amassed a 56-15 record, including trips to the state championship game, the state semifinals and the state quarterfinals. Adamson was an honorable mention all-conference player as a sophomore in 2001-02, helping the Eagles win the Continental League championship. That season Adamson hit the game-winning shot to send the Eagles to the state semifinals. She was named a team captain as a junior and will again captain the Eagles during her senior season. She was named Heritage's Offensive Most Valuable Player in 2001.
In addition to her scholastic experience, Adamson played AAU ball for the Colorado Hoopsters. Adamson has also played softball at Heritage. A first baseman, third baseman and outfielder, she helped the Eagles to the state tournament in 2003.
Adamson's father, John, played basketball at the University of Florida.
Syracuse begins the 2003-04 season on Saturday, November 22 when they play at Binghamton. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
