ATLANTA, GA -- Sophomore Gerry McNamara and junior Hakim Warrick, returning starters on the SU men's basketball team, have been named to the preseason list of candidates for the 2003-04 Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award.
McNamara and Warrick are two of 30 candidates for the honor. T.J. Ford of Texas won the award a year ago.
The Naismith Award is in its 36th year. It was founded by the Atlanta Tipoff Club, an organization dedicated to recognizing the achievements of student-athletes in basketball. Leading basketball coaches, journalists and basketball analysts make up a Board of Selectors who pick the preseason candidates.
