Syracuse University Chancellor Kenneth Shaw and Athletics Director Jake Crouthamel addressed the media at a press conference at the Carrier Dome Tuesday night regarding The BIG EAST Conference's announcement earlier that day that five schools will join the league. Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville, Marquette and South Florida will begin competition in the BIG EAST in 2005-06.
Beginning that season, the BIG EAST will be comprised of 16 schools. Eight of those schools, including Syracuse, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, South Florida and West Virginia will make up the BIG EAST football conference.
Syracuse is one of the founding members of The BIG EAST Conference which formed in 1979.
