
17/18 Orangemen Travel to 23/19 Connecticut for Big Monday Matchup

Freshmen Carmelo Anthony and Billy Edelin recorded career highs in points against the Mountaineers, with 29 and 18 respectively. The Orangemen finished with five players scoring in double figures for the seventh time this season, with SU winning all seven games. Anthony leads Syracuse with an average of 21.1 points per game, and he ranks first among freshmen in the NCAA with an average of 9.5 rebounds per outing. Sophomore Hakim Warrick is averaging 16.2 points and 8.9 boards per game. Freshman Gerry McNamara, who posted his second career double-double on Saturday with 14 points and 12 assists, is averaging 14.8 points and 5.1 assists per contest.
The Huskies’ roster includes three players averaging 10 or more points per game. Ben Gordon leads UConn with an average of 20.6 points per contest, including 21.3 points per BIG EAST outing. Emeka Okafor, one of the country’s top shot blockers, is averaging a double-double with 15.4 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. After dropping two straight BIG EAST games, Connecticut righted itself Saturday with an 84-68 win against conference foe Providence. Okafor led the Huskies with 21 points and nine caroms.
Fans can listen to the game in the Syracuse area on the SU Radio Network, 1260 AM. Voice of the Orange Mark Johnson will handle the play-by-play duties, while Matt Park will provide color commentary. The game will also be televised on ESPN, with Sean McDonough and Bill Raftery hosting the broadcast.
