Anthony was also selected to the All-BIG EAST First Team, becoming the first freshman to earn first-team honors since SU’s Pearl Washington did it in 1983-84. He finished fourth in the conference in scoring average (22.5) and third in rebounding (10.0). Anthony set the BIG EAST freshman records for scoring average (21.4) and double-doubles (10), covering league games only.
McNamara finished the year with the best free-throw percentage in the league (.928, 77-of-83), and ranked third in steal average (2.11) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.97). His .964 (53-of-55) free throw percentage in conference games is a single-season record.
Warrick was the Orangemen’s second-highest scorer, averaging 15.4 points, the 18th-best average in the league. He finished third in the league in field goal percentage (.556, 160-288), including 70 of his field goals coming as dunks.
With 73 selections, Syracuse has the most All-BIG EAST honors of any school in the league. The All-BIG EAST teams are chosen by the league’s head coaches. The conference’s individual awards, including Player and Coach of the Year, will be announced at a banquet on Tuesday night before the start of the BIG EAST Tournament.
Syracuse has a first-round bye and will play its first game of the tournament on Thursday, Mar. 13, at 7:00 p.m. against the winner of the first-round Georgetown/Villanova game. All games will be broadcast on either ESPN or ESPN2, and live stats will be provided by Internet Consulting Services of Syracuse on the BIG EAST’s website, www.bigeast.org.
