
Women's Soccer Announces Awards At Annual Banquet

Junior midfielder Anne-Marie Lapalme was named the team's most valuable player. Lapalme started all 16 games she played in and finished third on the team in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. She scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 overtime victory against Binghamton on Sept. 8.
Senior captain Carrie Klotz was given the Abbie Bigelow Award for exhibiting courage and the desire to excel. Despite a painful foot injury, Klotz started 16-of-17 games in the midfield and recorded one assist. Junior goalkeeper Jenelle Ferri was named the team's Verhulst Sportswoman of the Year. The award is given to the student-athlete that exemplifies sportsmanship, leadership and attitude
Freshman Sheila Menz and sophomore Elaina Haskos were named the Most Improved Players and freshman Emily Kowalczyk was named Rookie of the Year. Kowalczyk played 962 minutes in goal and stopped 67 shots for a .744 save pct. and one shutout.
Junior defender Megan Huez earned the team's Unsung Hero Award for the second straight year. Huez was one of only four Orangewomen to start all 17 games, spearheading the Syracuse defense.
In addition, 2002 junior captain Erica Mastrogiacomo, Lapalme and Huez were named captains for the 2003 season.
