
SU Women’s Tennis Loses To Rutgers, 4-3

Syracuse’s No. 3 doubles tandem, junior Trine Lise Juliussen and freshman Wei-Ming Leong defeated Alina Balasa and Jill Markowitz, 8-5. At No. 2, senior Daniela Kaluskova and sophomore Kristine Bech Holte lost, 8-5, and at No. 1, seniors Shervin Saedinia and Masha Kabanova lost to Andrea Weckstein and Carissa Sommerland, 9-8 to give Rutgers the doubles point.
In singles, Kaluskova defeated Weckstein, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1, and Kabanova won at No. 2 in three sets, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. Holte won at No. 5 to give SU its third point, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5. The pivotal match turned out to be at No. 3, where Saedinia lost to Jennifer Hellier, 6-4, 4-6, 6-7. With her win at No. 2, Kabanova needs just two more wins to move into a tie for fifth place on SU’s career wins list. She currently has 147 victories in her career.
The Orangewomen (8-6, 4-2 BIG EAST) go out of conference for a home match against Yale on Saturday, April 5 at noon.
