
Swimming & Diving Teams Earn CSCAA Academic All-American Honors

The Syracuse University women's and men's swimming and diving teams received Academic All-American recognition from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for the Fall 2002 semester. With a 3.33 team grade point average, the Orangewomen finished 15th out of 53 Division I women's programs. The Orangemen were ranked 33rd out of 35 Division I men's teams with a 2.87 grade point average.
Five SU swimmers will compete in Indianapolis for the ConocoPhillips National Championships, April 1-5, at the IU Natatorium. Junior Elyse McDonough (Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem Central) will race in the women's 100-meter butterfly, the 200-meter butterfly and the 200-meter individual medley. On the men's side, junior Spencer Raymond (Idstein, Germany/Singapore American School) will try to post his best times in the 100-meter breaststroke and the 50-meter freestyle. He will also compete with teammates Mike Anstrom (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock), Rob Persico (Fulton, Md./DeMatha Catholic) and Ryan Caponera (Latham, N.Y./Albany Academy) in the men's 400-meter medley relay and the 400-meter freestyle relay.
