Varsity Eight Places Second In Race Against Radcliffe And Dartmouth

HANOVER, NH - The Syracuse University women’s rowing team finished four seconds behind Radcliffe in the varsity eight race on Saturday morning in Hanover, NH.
Radcliffe, ranked No. 1 in the EAWRC Coaches Poll, placed first in the top eight race with a time of 6:11.1. The Orangewomen, ranked seventh in the EAWRC, finished second in 6:15.8 and Dartmouth placed third with a time of 6:31.8. Sophomore Kelly McGrorey rowed in the seven seat for the Orangewomen, while senior Seana Miller rowed in the six seat.
“This was a good showing for us, especially in the varsity eight boat,” said head coach Kris Sanford.
SU placed second in the first novice eight race in 6:32.4 and first in the second novice eight/third varsity eight race with a time of 6:51.1. Erin McLaughlin coxed the first novice eight boat, while Ineke DeSimone served as the stroke. Sophomore Jessica Stephens stroked the second novice eight/third varsity eight boat and sophomore Tori Amling rowed in the six seat.
The Orangewomen placed third in the second varsity eight and varsity four races. Junior Michelle Garren stroked the second varsity eight to a third-place finish in a time of 6:31.8. Radcliffe, who recorded four first-place times, finished in 6:20.4. Sophomore Molly Donahue rowed the two seat for SU’s varsity four, which placed third in 7:31.5.
Syracuse returns to action on Sunday, April 27 when it travels to Worcester, MA to defend its title in the BIG EAST Challenge.
