Game Nine: vs. #12 Cornell (6-2)
Tues., April 8, 7:00 p.m. - Carrier Dome - 49,550
Syracuse, fresh off its 17-6 victory at Loyola last Saturday, returns home to take on No. 12 Cornell. The Orangemen have won their last three games by a combined score of 48-25. SU is 6-2 on the year and ranked No. 4 in the country.
Cornell comes to the Carrier Dome riding a five-game winning streak. The Big Red are 6-2 on the year, rebounding from two disappointing losses, a seven-point setback to Georgetown to open the season (13-6), and a 13-5 loss at Hofstra on March 8. Since the Hofstra loss, Cornell has rattled off five wins against Canisius (19-6), Penn State (9-8), Yale (16-8), Pennsylvania (13-7) and Harvard (6-5). In last week's STX/USILA Coaches Poll, Cornell owned the No. 12 ranking.
This will mark the 87th meeting between Syracuse and Cornell. The Orangemen own a 54-31-1 advantage in the all-time series, but Cornell has won two of the last three meetings. Last season, the Big Red defeated SU in Ithaca, 15-11. The Orangemen won a 14-10 decision at the Carrier Dome in 2001. Cornell played spoiler to what could have been an undefeated season for Syracuse in 2000. The Big Red gutted out a 13-12 decision in Ithaca during the 2000 campaign, the only loss of SU's national-championship season.
