
Boeheim Receives Winged Foot Award From New York Athletic Club

Boeheimwas the eighth recipient of the award and joined previous national championship coaches Rick Pitino (1996, Kentucky), Lute Olson (1997, Arizona), Tubby Smith (1998, Kentucky), Jim Calhoun (1999, Connecticut), Tom Izzo (2000, Michigan State), Mike Krzyzewski (2001, Duke) and Gary Williams (2002, Maryland). Boeheim guided the Orangemen to a 30-5 record this past season and the program's first NCAA championship in the sport. Syracuse defeated Kansas in the title game, 81-78.
Connecticut's Geno Auriemma was also honored at the banquet for winning the NCAA Women's Championship. This year's event marked the first time the men's and women's honorees were presented in the same evening.
The dias included former BIG EAST Commissioner Dave Gavitt, Billy Packer and Leslie Visser from CBS Sports, St. Joseph's coach Phil Martelli, former SU great Sherman Douglas, and Syracuse director of athletics Jake Crouthamel.
