Additional home conference contests for the Orangemen include face-offs with Boston College, Rutgers, St. John’s, Villanova and Virginia Tech. Road tilts have Syracuse traveling to take on Georgetown, Miami, Providence, Seton Hall and West Virginia.
The BIG EAST Conference returns to a one-division alignment in 2003-04. When the league first competed with seven programs in 1980, a one-division format was used. In 1995, when Notre Dame, Rutgers and West Virginia joined, the conference switched to two divisions for three seasons. In the 1998-99 and 1999-00 campaigns one division was employed. The 2000 season marked a revisit to two divisions for three years.
During the 2003-04 season each BIG EAST Conference team will meet every other member of the league at least once and three teams twice.
The four clubs that earned spots in the 2003 NCAA Tournament – Connecticut, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh and Syracuse – will play each other twice this winter.
Syracuse is also scheduled to play non-league home games against Canisius, Colgate, Michigan State, North Carolina-Asheville, Rhode Island and Siena. The Orange will play a non-conference road game at Missouri and will take on St. Bonaventure in a neutral-site tilt in Rochester.
The complete schedule, including game dates and times, should be announced in September.
