St. Louis Rams Sign SU's Mike Shafer

Former Syracuse University standout punter Mike Shafer signed a free agent contract to play for the St. Louis Rams of the National Football League. Shafer will report to the Rams training camp on July 24.
Shafer graduated from SU in May 2003 as the school's all-time leader in punting yardage (10,073 yards) and punts (249). He finished his career ranked third in The BIG EAST Conference in punting yardage.
Shafer joins four other Orangemen who are in 2003 NFL camps, including Chris Davis, a fifth-round selection of the Seattle Seahawks, David Tyree, a sixth-round selection of the New York Giants, Clifton Smith, who signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins, and Will Hunter, who signed as a free agent with the New York Jets.
