Volleyball Wins Season Opener, 3-2, Against Albany

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. - The Syracuse volleyball team won its first game of the season, 3-2, against in-state rival Albany on Friday, August 29, at the Western New York Tournament.
The Orangewomen took a two-game lead, 30-25 and 30-17, before Albany narrowly won the next two, both by scores of 30-28. SU secured the win with a 15-13 triumph in the fifth game.
Four players recorded double-doubles. Sophomore Kristen Conway led the Orange attack with 20 kills along with 15 digs. Sophomore Aila Dommestrup recorded 47 assists and 10 digs, and classmate Kelly Duan had 10 kills and 11 digs. In her collegiate debut, Erin McQuillin notched 11 kills and 10 total blocks.
The Orangewomen continue playing in the Western New York Tournament on Saturday, August 30, against Cleveland at 3:00 p.m., and against Buffalo at 7:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at Buffalo.
