Syracuse and North Carolina have met three previous times. The Tar Heels lead the all-time series 2-1, including last season’s 30-22 win in the Carrier Dome. The Orangemen defeated North Carolina in the 1995 season opener, 20-9. The game marked the beginning of an era, as Donovan McNabb first start of his illustrious career.
Louisville makes its second-ever trip to the Dome on Sept. 13. SU owns a perfect 3-0 record against the Cardinals and the Orange are 1-0 versus Louisville under head coach Paul Pasqualoni. In 1989, the Orangemen defeated Louisville 24-13 in the Coca-Cola Bowl in Tokyo, Japan.
The following week the Golden Knights of Central Florida will travel to Central New York.. This is the third consecutive year these two schools have competed against one another. SU has won the previous two meetings, including last year’s dramatic 38-35 come-from-behind win at Central Florida.
On Sept. 27 Mid-American Conference power Toledo will visit the Dome. The Orangemen and Rockets have met on one other occasion. In 1999 SU beat Toledo 35-12.
Syracuse will meet Notre Dame to close out the regular season on Dec. 6. The Fighting Irish hold a 2-1 edge in the all-time series. The two teams last met in 1963 at Yankee Stadium. The Orangemen prevailed defeating Notre Dame 14-7.
