Florida International Defeats SU Volleyball In Five-Game Thriller

DURHAM, N.H. - Sophomore Jessica Logan recorded a career-high 17 kills, but it was not enough for the SU volleyball team as the Orangewomen lost to Florida International, 3-2, on the first day of the UNH Tournament. Syracuse (7-5) won the first and fourth games, but lost the fifth and decisive game: 30-23, 24-30, 23-30, 30-28, 11-15.
Logan's 17 kills on 39 attempts led her to a team-best .308 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kristen Conway recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 16 kills and 10 digs. Conway also had 39 attacks, and a team-high three service aces and five total blocks. Junior Morgan Jones had 11 kills, and sophomore Katie Allen recorded 10 kills. Sophomore Kelly Duan and senior Christen Casey anchored SU's back-row defense with 18 digs each, and Duan had a career-high 43 attacks. Sophomore Aila Dommestrup recorded 49 assists and nine digs.
Betsy Moreland and Adriana Fundora each recorded double-doubles for the Golden Panthers. Fundora had 20 kills and 15 digs, as well as a match-high 53 attempts. Moreland recorded 66 assists and 11 digs. Jessica Jones posted 16 kills on 38 attempts and had a team-high .316 hitting percentage. Jennifer Owens posted 14 kills on 34 attempts and had seven blocks. Elizabeth Baldwin led FIU's defense with 25 digs.
Syracuse will attempt to halt its losing skid against New Hampshire on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., and against Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m.
