The Orangemen football squad will go for its second straight win when it faces the Toledo Rockets at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse (2-1) is coming off of a 38-14 win against Central Florida, while Toledo (3-1) defeated Pittsburgh, 35-31 last weekend.
On the 23rd anniversary of the first football game played in the Carrier Dome, junior Walter Reyes set a Carrier Dome rushing record against Central Florida with 241 yards. His 31 rushes was one shy of the record set by Joe Morris in the first ever game played in the Carrier Dome on September 20, 1980. Reyes leads the nation in rushing yards per game (173.0 yards per game) and scoring (16.67 points per game). In his career, he now has rushed for 1,793 yards, which ranks 16th on Syracuse's career leader list.
Reyes isn't the only Orangeman to lead the nation in a statistical category. Senior Rich Scanlon leads the country with 45 total tackles. He recorded 14 stops against Central Florida, marking the third straight game he has reached double digits in tackles.
