NEWTON, Mass. - Junior Pat Gallagher scored his first career goal in the Orangemen's 2-1 loss at 25th-ranked Boston College on Sunday, September 28. Syracuse is now 2-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the BIG EAST. The Eagles improved to 4-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play.
Boston College opened the scoring in the 38th minute. Jamen Amato scored his second goal of the season, putting in a rebound off an Adam Pfeifer attempt with 7:12 remaining in the first half. Pfeifer earned his second assist on the game-winning goal in the 66th minute. Neil Krause converted off a cross from Pfeifer to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
Gallagher pulled the Orangemen within one goal with 9:29 remaining in the game. Gallagher hit a drive from 20 yards out that found the back of the net. Gallagher, a transfer from TCU, is the second SU player in as many games to score their first career goals. Freshman Frank Bruno tallied a goal for the first time against Hartwick.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alim Karim made six saves for the Orangemen. Boston College keeper Mike Cardenas had seven saves in the victory. The Eagles outshot Syracuse, 16-15, but the Orangemen held an 8-3 advantage on corner kicks.
The Orangemen have lost three consecutive games, all to ranked opponents. It is SU's first three-game losing streak since a four-game skid to end the 2001 season.
The loss ended a string of five road contests in six games for Syracuse. The Orangemen play five of their final eight regular-season games at home where they are 2-0-1 so far in 2003. SU opens a three-game homestand against 15th-ranked Notre Dame on Thursday, October 2 at 7 p.m.
