More than 150 Syracuse University student-athletes, representing nine athletics teams, raised $4,400 for the United Way at the sixth annual Dollar Days at the Dome prior to SU’s football game against Louisville in September. Student-athletes from SU's women's rowing, men's crew, women’s basketball, men’s and women's lacrosse, and men's and women's swimming and diving, and men's and women's track & field interacted with fans outside the Carrier Dome. The generous community responded with great support for the United Way as it has every year.
Since 1998 SU student-athletes have raised more than $33,500 for the United Way campaign with their “Dollar Days at the Dome” event. In 2001, SU student-athletes collected more than $10,000 for the United Way September 11th Fund on September 22 prior to SU's game against Auburn. In 2002, Orangemen and Orangewomen raised $5,525 for the cause.
Dollar Days at the Dome is just one of many community service projects SU student-athletes are involved with in this area. For each of the past six years, Syracuse University Chancellor Kenneth Shaw has recognized SU's student-athletes with the Chancellor's Award for Public Service because of their involvement in the Syracuse community.
