Orangemen Win Swim Meet in Puerto Rico

The Syracuse men's swimming team placed first in a swim meet held in Puerto Rico on January 4. The competition was held during the team's annual winter training trip. SU competed against teams from Harvard, St. John's, Yale, Montclair, Seton Hall, Brandeis, Georgetown, Northwestern, Skidmore and a Puerto Rico age group team. Freshman Luk Boral was named the Men's Swimmer of the Meet. He set pool records in the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley.
The SU women finished second. Senior Elyse McDonough set pool records in the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly. Freshman Randi Beaulieu set a pool record in the women's 100 backstroke.
Syracuse returns home to host West Virginia on Jan. 17. Diving will begin at 9 a.m., while swimming starts at noon. It will be the final home meet of the season for Syracuse, who closes out the regular dual-meet season with three road trips before the BIG EAST Championship on Feb. 19-21, 2004.
