
Swimming and Diving Hosts Colgate on Oct. 15

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse entertains Colgate in a dual-meet on Friday, Oct. 15. It is the second competition of the season for the Orange, who swam and dove against the Syracuse Chargers last Friday. This is the first meet of the season for the Raiders, who will return home to face Boston College on Saturday, Oct. 16. Friday's swimming events will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Ted Webster Pool in Archbold Gymnasium. The diving portion of the competition will also begin at 4:30 p.m., at Sibley Pool in the Women’s Building.
The Orange and Raiders will compete in the following events:
400 medley relay
1,000 freestyle
200 freestyle
50 freestyle
200 individual medley
200 butterfly
100 freestyle
200 backstroke
500 freestyle
200 breaststroke
400 freestyle relay
1-meter dive
3-meter dive
ALL-TIME DUAL-MEET SERIES WITH COLGATE
Last season when these two teams met in Hamilton, N.Y., the Orange men posted a 159.5 - 80.5 victory, while the SU women won, 128-111. Syracuse owns an all-time dual-meet record of 32-29 against the Colgate men, while the women are 10-1 against the Raiders.
WALKER NOW IN HIS 29TH SEASON AT SYRACUSE
Lou Walker is in his 29th season coaching swimming at Syracuse University. He has coached the women since 1976 and the men since 1979. Last season, he guided the SU men to a 6-1 dual-meet record and a fifth-place finish at the BIG EAST Championship. The 2003-04 women were 3-4 in dual meets and placed seventh at the conference meet.
Walker has been named the BIG EAST Coach of the Year five times and has helped develop four Olympians, 18 All-Americans, and 12 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Swimmers.
He was named a Syracuse Letterwinner of Distinction in 2001, was inducted to the Orange Plus Hall of Fame in 1997, and serves on the Syracuse Alumni Board of Directors and the NCAA Swimming Committee.
