SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The Orange field hockey team (9-5, 2-1 BIG EAST) is home for two games this weekend, starting with an important BIG EAST Conference game against Providence on Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 17, Syracuse plays host to Dartmouth in a non-conference match at 12:30 p.m. SU posted a 2-1 record last week, with shutouts against Albany (6-0) on Oct. 5, and Lafayette (4-0) on Oct. 10, and a 3-1 loss to BIG EAST rival Villanova on Oct. 8. SU had its seven-game winning streak snapped by the Wildcats, but has won eight of its last nine outings and was tied for No. 17 in the latest STX/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
SERIES WITH PROVIDENCE
This will mark the 22nd meeting between Syracuse and Providence. The Orange leads the all-time series, 12-4-5, and has won the last three meetings all by one goal. The last time the Friars beat Syracuse was 2000, with a 2-1 overtime win in Syracuse.
LOMBARD TIES SCHOOL RECORD AGAINST ALBANY
Junior back Joanne Lombard tied the Syracuse single-game record with four goals against Albany. She tied the record set by Kristin Aronowicz in 2000 against Colgate.
WAGNER RECORDS 200TH CAREER SAVE AGAINST VILLANOVA
Fifth-year senior goalkeeper Betsy Wagner had 11 saves in the Villanova contest and in the process, recorded her 200th career save. With five saves in the Lafayette win, Wagner’s career total now stands at 205 saves. She has three shutouts on the season and seven for her career.
FRY IS SU’S LEADING GOAL SCORER IN BIG EAST GAMES
Sophomore forward Ashley Fry was responsible for SU’s lone goal in the game at Villanova. She is the team’s leading goal scorer in BIG EAST games with three goals. She netted two goals in the victory against Boston College.
CARRIERO RECORDS CAREER-HIGH FIVE POINTS IN WIN AT LAFAYETTE
Senior forward Brittany Carriero recorded a career-high five points (two goals, one assist) in the field hockey team’s 4-0 victory against Lafayette. The performance moved Carriero into a tie for the team lead in goals with six. Her assist to junior forward Paige Sullivan at 54:46 of the second half moved Carriero into the team lead for points with 15 (six goals, three assists). Peirson leads the team with seven assists. Sullivan and junior back Joanne Lombard each have six goals on the season, along with Carriero.
