
Swimming and Diving Defeats Colgate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Syracuse swimmers recorded the fastest times in all 22 events in a dual meet against Colgate at Ted Webster Pool. The SU women defeated the Raiders, 139-92, while the men scored a 132-104 victory. It was the first meet of the season for the Raiders and second for the Orange.
Senior co-captains Mike Anstrom (Springfield, Va./Lake Braddock) and Josh Scott (Clayton, Calif./Clayton Valley) paced the SU men by winning three events apiece. The two teamed up to help SU's 400 medley relay to a first-place finish. Scott won the 200-yard freestyle (1:44.54) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.65). Anstrom's other first-place finishes came in the 50-yard freestyle (21.95) and the 100-yard freestyle (48.01).
On the women's side, freshman Katie Maaske (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School) had the fastest times of the meet in the 200-yard individual medley (2:09.72), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:21.57) and as part of the women's 400-yard medley relay (3:58.18). Junior Vanessa Martinez (Maunabo, Puerto Rico/Notre Dame H.S.) was victorious in the 200 freestyle (1:56.28), the 100 freestyle (54.37) and as part of the 400 medley relay (3:58.18).
Syracuse will be at the Sonny Werblin Invitational at Rutgers on Oct. 22-23. The Orange will not be home again until January 22, 2005 against Connecticut.
