PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Syracuse women’s soccer team hits the road for two crucial BIG EAST games. The Orange will face Providence on Friday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. and No. 23 Boston College on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. The Orange has seven points in the BIG EAST standings and that ties them with Georgetown and Pittsburgh for the final spot in the conference tournament.
SU’s fate will, most likely, come down to a make-up game between Georgetown and Pittsburgh to be played on Wednesday, Oct. 27 in Pittsburgh, Penn. With two conference games remaining for the Orange, there are numerous possibilities for the BIG EAST’s final standings and Syracuse could finish as high as No. 5 or as low as No. 12. The Orange can all but seal its fate with two wins this weekend, a win and a loss and SU would need some help, and two losses would leave the Orange on the outside looking in.
The Orange is led by senior speedster Shana Thomas with 10 points on five goals. Senior captain Helen Fox and sophomore Molly McManus each have three goals and two assists for eight points. The Orange holds a 6-1-1 record against Providence and a 3-5 mark versus Boston College. Last season, SU lost to Boston College, 2-0, and tied Providence, 1-1, both games were played in Syracuse.
