STORRS, Conn. -- The No. 7 University of Connecticut field hockey team used three second-half goals to earn a 3-0 win over BIG EAST foe No. 20 Syracuse on Friday evening at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex.
With the win, UConn improves to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in BIG EAST action. The Orange drop to 10-7 overall and 3-2 in the league with the loss. The win marked Connecticut’s ninth shutout in 16 games this season. The Huskies have out-scored their opponents 68-9 combined over their first 16 games.
Following a scoreless first half, UConn’s Laura Puddle (London, England) gave the Huskies all the scoring they would need with her 10th goal of the season at the 44:48 mark of the second half.
Lauren Henderson (Avondale Harare, Zimbabwe) gave the Huskies some insurance when she scored her 23rd and 24th goals of the season less than eight minutes apart later in the second half.
For the game, UConn out-shot the Orange 17-2 and attempted six penalty corners to Syracuse’s one.
The Orange return home for a 1 p.m. meeting with No. 8-ranked American on Sunday, Oct. 24. The game is being webcast LIVE by i2sports and can be accessed through suathletics.com
