Senior tailback Walter Reyes (Struthers, Ohio) is the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week for his 237-yard, two touchdown performance in SU's 41-31 victory against Rutgers on Saturday, October 2. It is the third time Reyes has earned the BIG EAST weekly award during his SU career. Reyes' second touchdown was the go-ahead touchdown for the Orange with 2:24 left in the game. His 237 yard-effort was four yards shy of the Carrier Dome single-game rushing record he set in 2003 against Central Florida.
Reyes’s 3,150 career rushing yards represents the second-best effort in Syracuse football history. Joe Morris holds the SU record with 4,299 yards. Reyes and Morris are the only two backs in SU history to gain more than 3,000 yards rushing. Morris averaged 16.94 rushes per game, while Reyes has carried the ball 14.0 times per outing.
Reyes and the Orange host #8 Florida State on Saturday, October 9 in the Carrier Dome. Kickoff is 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2. For tickets, call the Carrier Dome Box Office (888-DOMETIX) or visit the website (dometix.com).
