
Orange Goes for Second Win Sunday at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Syracuse women's basketball team will try to build on its season-opening win versus Niagara when it plays its first road contest of the season at Yale on Sunday, Nov. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
SU was led by a fifth-year senior and a freshman against the Purple Eagles. Senior Chineze Nwagbo paced the Orange with 14 points and eight rebounds. Rookie Sara Antolick scored in double figures with 10 points and matched Nwagbo's eight boards. Senior Rochelle Coleman chipped in with seven points, including a three-pointer with less than five minutes left that gave Syracuse the lead for good. Junior Jill Norton had six points and seven rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench. Freshman Jessica Richter had eight points, three rebounds, four assists and four steals in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Tracy Harbut contributed seven points, seven rebounds and a career-high seven assists.
SU GOES FOR SECOND STRAIGHT 2-0 START
Syracuse is 1-0 for the second consecutive season after a 62-57 season-opening victory against Niagara on Nov. 19 at Manley Field House. The Orange started last season 2-0 with back-to-back wins at Binghamton and versus Massachusetts. SU has started the season with two straight victories in four of the last seven seasons.
SYRACUSE VS. THE IVY LEAGUE
Yale is one of two Ivy League opponents for the Orange this season. SU will also take on Cornell on Dec. 30. Syracuse is 14-5 all-time versus Ivy League teams, including a 0-1 record against Yale (see next page for series notes). SU is 1-0 versus Brown, 9-3 against Cornell, 2-0 verus Dartmouth and 2-1 against Harvard. The Orange has lost three of its last four against Ivy League schools. Last season, both Yale and Cornell were victorious. In 2002-03 SU split two games, defeating the Big Red and losing to Harvard.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Yale is 0-1 after a 66-53 loss to future SU opponent Sacred Heart on Friday, Nov. 19 at the John J. Lee Ampitheater. Three Bulldogs scored in double figures led by sophomore center Erica Davis’s 18 points. Davis also led the team with eight rebounds. Thirteen of her points came in the second half. Senior guard Tory Mauseth added 15 points, including three three-pointers. Sophomore forward Chinenye Okafor contributed 10 points and seven rebounds. Yale comitted 33 turnovers in the game and shot 38.0 percent for the game, but posted a 46.1 shooting percentage in the second half while outscoring Sacred Heart, 37-34. The Bulldogs led 13-5 in the first half, but the Pioneers rolled off 17 straight points to take the lead for good. Yale outrebouned Sacred Heart, 41-35.
THE SYRACUSE-YALE SERIES
Yale won the only meeting in the series with a 70-54 victory at Manley Field House last season. Lauren Kohn scored a career-high 18 points in the loss on six three-pointers.
Following the game at Yale, SU will host Manhattan on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 12 p.m. The game has been designated SU Employee Day. Any Syracuse University employee will receive free admission when they present their University ID.
