SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Former Syracuse University men’s lacrosse coach Roy Simmons Jr. has assembled a Christmas tree commemorating the 2004 National Champion Orange at the Everson Art Museum in downtown Syracuse. The 16-foot tree, decked out in Brine mini-lacrosse sticks and orange and blue streamers, will be on display in the sculpture court of the museum’s main lobby and open to the public from Dec. 2-12.
At 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, Coach Simmons will be on hand to distribute the 150 Brine mini-sticks to children age 12-and-under before dismantling the tree.
This is the second time Coach Simmons has signed on to trim a tree for the Everson Museum. His 2002 championship tree was well-received and the ornamental sticks were quick to go.
Brine and Dick’s Sporting Goods are the principle sponsors of this project. The Syracuse men’s lacrosse team has enjoyed a strong relationship with Brine throughout the years. The SU Orange uses Brine equipment.
The Everson Museum of Art was founded in 1897 as the Syracuse Museum of Fine Art. The museum is housed in I.M. Pei’s first museum building opened in 1968.
