SYRACUSE, NY -- The #3/5 Syracuse Orange (5-0) returns to the Carrier Dome after three games away from home when it squares off with New York rival St. Bonaventure (0-3) on Wednesday, December 1, at 7:00 p.m. The Orange is ranked third in the latest Associated Press Poll and fifth in the USA Today/ESPN rankings. It represents Syracuse’s highest AP ranking since the Orange were third for four weeks during the 1990-91 campaign.
The Orange are coming off a road win at Siena on Saturday, 78-56. The result gave SU an unblemished 5-0 mark in November. Syracuse has posted undefeated November records in six of the last eight years.
Another SU streak on the line Wednesday against the Bonnies is the program’s 29 straight victories versus New York State teams. The Orange has not lost to an in-state resident since February 19, 2000, when St. John’s beat Syracuse, 76-75.
Senior forward Hakim Warrick, a candidate for the Naismith, Rupp and Wooden national player of the year awards, won Coaches vs. Cancer Classic MVP honors. He posted his third double-double of the season tallying 13 points and a season-high 15 boards against Siena. He enters the St. Bonaventure tilt average 19.6 points and 9.0 rebounds an outing.
Junior guard Gerry McNamara tallied 29 points, including 18 prior to the intermission, and helped Syracuse up its winning streak to five with a 78-56 victory against Siena in the Pepsi Arena. The game was SU’s first appearance in the state capitol since the Orange won two NCAA Tournament games there in 2003 on the way to the national championship.
The Syracuse ISP Sports Network will broadcast the Syracuse-St. Bonaventure game on its local AM affiliate, ESPN1260. Matt Park will call the action with Gene Waldron offering analysis. The game will also be televised by ESPN Regional, airing on Time Warner 26 in the Syracuse market. Dave Strader and Matt Doherty will announce.
SU continues its game home stand against Colgate on December 4. The game is a 7:00 p.m. start in the Carrier Dome.
