SYRACUSE, NY -- The Syracuse men's basketball team concluded exam week on Friday, and the squad's focus turns to Saturday's court foe, the Drexel Dragons. The Orange faces off against the Dragons at 7:00 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.
The Orange, ranked eighth in the latest Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today Polls, is 8-1 on the year. Syracuse defeated Binghamton in its last outing, an 86-56 victory last Saturday. Sophomore Louie McCroskey made his debut in the SU starting lineup and responded with a career-high 11 points.
Drexel is 3-3 this season and facing its sixth road game in seven contests. The Dragons defeated Quinnipiac on Saturday, 66-59.
The two programs are meeting for the second time. Syracuse defeated Drexel in the second round of the 1996 NCAA Tournament, 69-58. John Wallace had 18 points and Otis Hill 16 in the victory that was part of SU's march to the NCAA title game with Kentucky.
The Dragons are coached by James "Bruiser" Flint, a former assistant and head coach at Massachusetts. He is now in his fourth season at Drexel.
The game is being televised on ESPN Regional with Dave Strader and Bob Wenzel as commentators. The broadcast on the Syracuse ISP Network will feature Brian Higgins and former Syracuse standout Gene Waldron. It can be heard in the Syracuse area on WAQX 95.7 or via the internet at www.suathletics.com.
