
Orange Women's Basketball Loses, 48-35, to Auburn

SYRACUSE N.Y. – Nicole Louden, Louise Emeagi and Natasha Brackett combined to score 37 of Auburn's 48 points to lead the visiting Tigers to a 48-35 victory Sunday afternoon at Manley Field House in Syracuse, N.Y. Freshman center Vaida Sipaviciute scored a career-high 10 points and pulled down five rebounds for the Orange.
Sophomore Lauren Kohn tallied a team-high 12 points along with five rebounds and three assists. Freshman Amanda Adamson scored six points and had two rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Senior Krystalyn Ellerbe finished with four points, five assists and a career-high five rebounds. Senior Chineze Nwagbo was held scoreless for the first time this season, she grabbed four rebounds in 25 minutes of work.
Brackett led the Tigers with a game-high 14 points and had six rebounds and five assists. Louden finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Emeagi tallied the game's only double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Marita Payne finished with 14 rebounds to go with her six points.
The Orange trailed 10-8 with 13:55 left in the opening frame, when the Tigers went on a 10-0 run over the next 6:03, to stretch the lead to 20-8. The Orange cut the lead to nine, 24-15, with 5:40 left in the first half. The opening half saw only two points in the final 5:40 and Auburn held a 26-15 advantage at intermission. Kohn and Adamson had four points a piece in the first 20 minutes.
The Orange opened the second half with two quick buckets by Kohn, including one from behind the arc. The 5-0 spurt made the score 26-20. Auburn came back with an 8-0 run to give the Tigers a 34-20 lead, the largest of the day. SU answered with 16:24 left in the game, Kohn started a 9-0 run with her second three-pointer of the half. The Orange pulled within five, 29-34. Sipaviciute tallied four points on the run. The teams exchanged two baskets to make the score 38-33 with 5:21 left on the clock. The
Tigers closed the game on a 10-2 run.
The Orange was outrebounded 55-33, including 22 offensive boards for the Tigers. Auburn's advantage on the glass led to 17 second-chance points for the Tigers. SU managed only 4 second-chance points.
SU returns to action on December 28 at Sacred Heart for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
