McDonough Wins BIG EAST/Aeropostale Female Scholar-Athlete Award

Aeropostale is the official apparel of BIG EAST Championships and is the sponsor of the conference's Post Graduate Student-Athlete Scholarship Program. This year, Aeropostale will award 31 scholarships to conference student-athletes to assist in their pursuit of graduate or professional studies.
McDonough, a native of Delmar, N.Y., majors in television, radio and film and speech communications at Syracuse. She is a three-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star and has been named to SU's Athletic Director's Honor Roll all seven semesters. She is a two-time team captain and president of the Student-Athlete Council.
She will go down as one of Syracuse University's most accomplished female swimmers. McDonough owns eight school records (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay). Last season, she was a BIG EAST silver medalist in the 200 butterfly. This season, she is looking to set new personal-best times at the 2004 BIG EAST Championship, Feb. 19-21, at the Nassau County Aquatics Center in Uniondale, N.Y. She is the Orangewomen's best hope since Liz Vilbert in 1981 to make the NCAA Championship.
Notre Dame soccer standout Vanessa Pruzinsky was named the 2003-04 BIG EAST/Aeropostale Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The other women's winners were: Emily Hellberg, Boston College (tennis); Erin Rice, Connecticut (soccer); Jessie Beers-Altman, Georgetown (soccer); Adrienne Moss, Miami (track and field); Carolyne Savini, Pittsburgh (swimming and diving); Lisa Cappello, Providence (cross country); Julie Culley, Rutgers (cross country/track and field); Laura Nuudi, St. John's (swimming and diving); Jocelyn Dumaresq, Seton Hall (soccer); Elyse McDonough, Syracuse (swimming); Rebecca Koch, Villanova (swimming and diving); Jennifer Brielmaier, Virginia Tech (swimming and diving); Courtney Howell, West Virginia (tennis).
