
Orangewomen to Take On Bears at the Dome

SYRACUSE,N.Y. -- On Tuesday, March 23, ninth-ranked Syracuse (2-2, 0-1) will host California (4-4, 1-1) at 7:00 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The contest marks the first meeting between the Orangewomen and the Bears.
The Orangewomen are coming off a 12-11 victory against Massachusetts in which senior Leigh-Ann Zimmer scored an unassisted goal with five seconds left in the game to complete a three goal second-half comeback, snapping the team’s two game losing streak. Sophomore Melody Agnew recorded a career-best two goals in the game, and senior Danielle Lillis scored twice.
Zimmer, SU’s all-time leading goal scorer, leads the Orangewomen with 18 points including 14 goals. Junior Monica Joines is second with 12 points (10 goals, two assists). Senior Danielle Lillis has also been strong, scoring eight goals this season.
California improved to 4-4 on the season winning their second game in a row on Sunday, March 21, against LeMoyne College 17-6 at Liverpool High School. The Bears also defeated George Washington University 12-11 on March 16. Against LeMoyne the Bears were led by senior Colleen O’Mara who notched four goals and five assists, and sophomore Schuyler Sokolow who recorded four goals.
O’Mara, a Syracuse native and graduate of West Genesee High School, has recorded 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) this season. Junior Molly Brady is the team’s top goal-scorer with 22 tallies. Freshman Laura Cavallo has contributed 14 points (10 goals, 4 assists) for the Bears. Freshman goalkeeper, Hilary Lynch, has started all eight games for the team and has a .500 save percentage.
