SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse University head volleyball coach Jing Pu announced today that Joscie Kaup and April Quigley signed intent to enroll forms and will compete for the Orangewomen beginning in the 2004 season.
Kaup, a native of Ft. Recovery, Ohio, played four seasons of varsity volleyball for Fort Recovery High School as a setter and an outside hitter. In the 2003 season, Kaup recorded 124 kills, 354 assists, 40 aces, and 195 digs. The two-time captain was named to the Midwest Athletic Conference First Team, District VIII First Team, and all-state third team in 2002. In her senior year, Kaup earned first-team Midwest Athletic Conference, first-team District VIII, and second-team all-state honors. Kaup was named team MVP and earned the Best Defense award in her junior and senior years. She is also a four-year letterwinner in softball and a two-year letterwinner in basketball for the Indians. Kaup was president of the Student Council and president of her senior class.
Quigley, a native of Warwick, N.Y., played four seasons of varsity volleyball for Warwick Valley High School as a setter and an outside hitter. The two-time captain was a first-team all-section and all-county selection in 2002. In her senior year, Quigley was named to the all-state second team, the 2003 Horseheads Classic All-Tournament team, and was the R.I. Blast Tournament MVP. Quigley led the Wildcats to a Division II Championship in 2003 and was named team MVP. She also earned MVP honors in 2002. Quigley was the junior and senior class treasurer and a member of SADD.
Kaup and Quigley join Ellen Bruegge and Jen Malcom who have signed national letters of intent to attend Syracuse and compete for the Orangewomen in the fall. SU finished the 2003 season with a 17-16 record and a 4-8 mark in the BIG EAST competition.
