SYRACUSE, NY -- Syracuse, fresh off a 16-10 victory against Hobart Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome, takes to the road for the third consecutive weekend to play undefeated Brown (6-0) at 1 p.m. on April 3. The third-ranked Orangemen improved to 3-0 at home this season and 5-1 overall with the win against the Statesemen. Michael Powell led the team in scoring with six points (four goals).
Brown is ranked No. 11 in this week's Geico/STX Coaches Poll. The Bears captured their sixth-straight win to open the season with a 15-5 victory against Hartford on Tuesday. Brown is 6-0 for the first time since the 1991 season when the team posted a perfect 13-0 regular-season record. In addition to Hartford, coach Scott Nelson's team has earned wins over Sacred Heart (10-5), Vermont (9-8), Fairfield (12-7), Massachusetts (10-5) and No. 10-ranked Loyola (14-3). Junior Chazz Woodson leads the Bears in scoring with 26 points (17 goals, nine assists).
This will be the 17th meeting between Syracuse and Brown dating back to 1986. The Orangemen hold a 15-1 series advantage. SU has won the last six games, including a 16-7 decision last year. Brown's only win over the Orange came in 1997 when the Bears toppled Syracuse, 20-12, at the Carrier Dome. The last time these two teams met at Stevenson Field was 2002. The Bears gave the eventual national champion Orangemen all they could handle before falling 14-13 in overtime. Goalie Mike Levin was spectacular with 17 saves.
