SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- The 11-ranked Orangewomen lacrosse team (7-2) will put their undefeated North region record on the line Sunday, April 11 when they host No. 12 Dartmouth (6-2) at 2:00 p.m. at the Carrier Dome. All fans will be admitted to the game free of charge. The Orangewomen are 4-0 against regional opponents this season and have not lost to a North region foe since Yale defeated SU in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tournament. Syracuse assistant coach Amy Zimmer graduated from Dartmouth in 2001. She was a four-year starter for the Big Green and helped lead them to four straight Ivy League titles. Zimmer earned All-Ivy League honors as a senior and was an IWLCA Second-Team All-American. Amy was the third Zimmer sister to play for the Big Green. Her younger sister, Kristen, became the fourth in 2003. Kristen started 13 games last season and earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention accolades. This year Kristen has started all eight games for the Big Green and has scored 10 points (five goals, five assists). Syracuse is riding a six-game winning streak, including a 12-7 triumph against Virginia Tech on April 9 in its most recent outing. Junior Courtney Palladino tied her career-high with two goals against Virginia Tech. She has scored seven goals in the Orangewomen’s nine games this season, surpassing her career total of six goals in 23 games prior to the start of 2004. Palladino also recorded one draw contol versus the Hokies, boosting her team leading total to 27. She entered the week ranked second in the BIG EAST in draw controls and sixth in Division I in draw controls per game. Sophomore Stephanie Walker ignited the Orangewomen’s offense against Virginia Tech, scoring her first goal of 2004 to get the Orangewomen on the scoreboard. She is tied for fouth on the team with four assists, all of them coming in consecutive wins against California, Connecticut, and Colgate. Dartmouth brings a 6-2 overall record into the pairing and is unbeaten in Ivy League play with a 4-0 conference mark. The Big Green has won its last four contests, including a 7-6 win at Cornell on April 9. The Big Green has outscored its opponents 88-57 this season and Dartmouth is only allowing 7.1 goals per game. Goalkeeper Devon Wills owns a .545 save percentage and a 7.40 goals-against-average. She ranked 12th among Division I goalies in save pecentage entering this week. Tewaaraton Trophy candidate Lana Smith leads the team with 31 points (21 goals, 10 assists). Five other Dartmouth performers, Annie Leibovitz (10), Katieanne Christian (13), Kate Killen (12), Molly Jenkins (12), and Zimmer (10) have notched double-digit points this year. SU and Dartmouth have met each of the last four seasons with the two teams splitting the four matchups. Three of the first four pairings have come at the Carrier Dome with SU posting a 2-1 record in those games. Last year the Orangewomen traveled to Hanover, NH for the first time and lost 14-11. The Big Green held Leigh-Ann Zimmer without a goal in the game. It marked just the fourth time in Zimmer’s career she was held without a goal. The shutout ended her 35-game goal-scoring streak, which dated back to 2001.
