
Kasel and Zimmer Garner Weekly Conference Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I.
-- Sophomore goalie Jennifer Kasel and senior midfielder Leigh-Ann Zimmer each earned BIG EAST Player of the Week accolades for their performances in a pair of Syracuse wins last week. Kasel was selected as the co-defensive player of the week, while Zimmer earned the league’s offensive player of the week award.Kasel made a combined 27 saves in the Orangewomen’s victories against Colgate and Rutgers, including a personal-best 23 stops versus the Scarlet Knights. The save total was the second-highest single-game total in SU history, behind Clothilde Ewing’s 25 savess versus Connecticut in 1999. Kasel posted a 6.99 goals-against-average and a .692 save percentage in the two games. She shared this week’s award with goalkeeper Jamie McGraw of Virginia Tech.
Zimmer was named the league’s offensive player of the week for the third time in 2004. She tied her career high with seven points against Rutgers (four goals, three assists). She also paced SU with five points (three goals, two assists) versus Colgate. Zimmer was selected as the conference’s top offensive performer on March 1 and March 22, as well.
The Orangewomen return to action this weekend with two games at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse will host Virginia Tech on Friday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. and will entertain Dartmouth on Sunday, April 11 at 2:00 p.m.
