
Ferri and Kowalewski Recognized for Improvement

Ferri, who will be a senior in the 2004 season, made the transition to strong safety from running back prior to the 2003 season. In his first year on defense, he had 75 solo tackles, which is the single-season record for defensive backs. His 120 total tackles ranks fourth on the SU record for tackles by a defensive back. Ferri also had two interceptions, one sack and four and one half tackles for a loss.
Kowalewski, who just completed his sophomore campaign, began his SU career as a defensive end. Prior to becoming entrenched as a tight end, he also worked as a linebacker. He was one of 39 players to participate in every game in 2003. He caught two passes for 47 yards and one touchdown.
The SU football team willl open the 2004 season at Purdue on Sunday, September 5 at Purdue. The game will be televised nationally on ABC. The Orange makes its home debut on Saturday, September 18 against Cincinnati in the Carrier Dome.
